There have been a number of scams attempting to use the auspices of Track and Trace for fraudulent purposes. People posing as authorised trackers or tracers have been making calls and attempting to get access to bank details or to social media accounts for example.
Northumbria Police are asking people to be on their guard with the following advice:
The safest thing to do if you get a call or an email or even text about Track and Trace is to go to the bona fide www.gov.uk website and search for the appropriate area or to get the official phone number - don't use the links in the email or ring the number they gave you.
To coin a phrase "stay alert stay safe!"
